Explore the potential of materials
Joining the Manchester edition, our pod allows people up north to experience materials in person, amongst many other innovative and inspiring surfaces, architectural products and furniture for design. Visitors can see the potential of surfaces made from recycled plastic, paper and textile wastes with pieces that reuse elements from our warehouse, studio and exhibitions like Surface Design Show. With seasonal updates, the space is a great place to see the latest material innovation, design trends, colours and textures.
On display includes Richlite wall panels, shelves and samples. The durable, tactile and strong surfaces are made from the unexpected - recycled paper. Solid through-colour panels have a natural patina and get used for everything from stage floors to retail and office interior wall panels, joinery, tea points, work surfaces and furniture. And, with over 300 colour options, Durat solid surface material made from recycled plastic waste forms an immersive colourful arch, wall panel, sample basin and worktop. The seamless sheets have a terrazzo look, silky feel and is hardwearing and food safe - often used as worktops, splashbacks, sinks and vanity units, wall panels and fitted furniture in commercial offices, residential developments, shopfitting and hospitality design.
Translated to 'Featherstone" the lightweight acoustic panels made from recycled textiles, from industrial production off cuts, work uniforms and discarded clothing are suspended above as baffling, and add acoustic comfort as a wall panel. Pierreplume can be cut into different shapes and sizes to fit your design and is great for open spaces to absorb sound and add visual texture to interior fit outs.
Plasticiet wears plastic content proudly, rethinking plastic waste and taking unwanted, often contaminated plastics to create fully recyclable vibrant panels that can be used as wall panels, furniture, joinery, table tops and works surfaces. Shaped shows dimension with routed details invoking drama and softening the acoustics of an environment. The machined panels add depth and texture with striking tactile surface designs that can be used for wall panels, furniture and cabinetry.
"It’s an incredibly inspiring space without the feel of being sponsored or branded which allows people to make informed decisions away from any sort of sales pressure which is incredibly important to us and to sustainability."
Meet up, visit other creatives and co-work from the space to get inspired. There are a range of samples you can take away, and we can talk through your project in more detail to make sure the material is specified for the best fit and long term use. We hold tailored material sessions for practices, you can book in a bespoke session for an informal CPD exploring materials and how they are made. We can tailor these specific to your projects and industry, to give you an insight on where they can be used and how they can contribute to sustainable certifications.
If you can't make it in person, you can also follow their editorial online for the latest architecture industry insights, interviews with designers, product launches and projects from the built environment.
Create Change, a material session shining a light on the circular economy and all things materials - focusing on how they are made, evaluating sustainability credentials and understanding how to use them in the right way to improve impact and design-in circularity from the start.
