A fit-out ends. The materials don’t have to.
Date: 11.10.2026

What happens to good materials when a project comes to an end?
In the built environment, materials are often stripped out as spaces change, even when they still have plenty of life left in them.
Recovering them for another use sounds straightforward, but making it happen takes planning — from identifying what can be saved to organising its removal, storage and next destination.
What if we started thinking about the next use before the current one comes to an end?
Circular Economy Week, hosted by ReLondon and its partners, brings together people working to accelerate the transition to a circular, low-carbon economy.
This year, we’re using the opportunity to explore what it takes to keep materials moving — looking beyond the initial specification to what happens throughout a material’s life, including when a project changes or comes to an end.
From designing for reuse and careful strip-out to storage, resale and finding a new home, we want to get into the practicalities. Where are materials being given a second life? What makes recovery possible, and what needs to change to make reuse easier?
Join us at Beton for two informal, hands-on sessions, exploring material reuse through real materials, projects and shared experience.
Whether you’re specifying materials, designing spaces, managing fit-outs or finding new uses for reclaimed resources, there’s plenty to learn from how others approach the same challenges.
Because keeping materials in use for longer isn’t down to one decision or one business. It takes people across the process thinking about what comes next.
