Joyn Kitchens launches Sintra, a new kitchen range built around colour, natural materiality and a distinctly tactile palette.
At its heart is a combination of stained European ash and Karlite worktops made from recycled car headlights. Together, they show how different materials can bring colour into a kitchen — one by enhancing the grain of natural timber, the other by transforming waste into an entirely new surface.
Colour that works with the grain
Sintra uses Linolie & Pigment Satin Wood Oils on FSC-certified European ash veneer. Rather than covering the timber, the linseed-oil-based finish sinks into the wood, allowing its natural grain, texture and growth rings to remain visible.
The result is a palette of 30 colours, spanning vibrant shades, jewel tones, pastels and neutrals. Consecutive boards are used across the doors to create continuity in the grain, while the colour brings variation to each surface.
As Joyn founder Luke Ellis puts it, there is a growing attraction to “the authenticity of material”, with clients looking for finishes that have “life and a narrative”.
Recycled material, chosen for its character
The Sintra showroom kitchen pairs its stained ash fronts with a Karlite worktop in Quartz and Chestnut.
Made by Plasticiet from recycled car headlights, Karlite is fully recycled and recyclable. Its translucent quality and distinctive colour add another layer to the material palette, contrasting with the warmth and natural variation of the timber.
Together, the two materials show different ways of working with colour: pigment absorbed into natural wood, alongside recycled plastic transformed into a new surface.
Sintra joins a wider collection; Copenhagen, Osaka and Palermo. All four ranges use a shared cabinet system, allowing colour, material and detailing to change the character of each kitchen.
Designed and made in the UK, Joyn’s approach is centred around made-to-order kitchens that can be configured to suit the individual home.
