    Designing the KITUI Kitchen

    A Conversation with WoodWorks Brighton

    Date: 03.07.2026

A bespoke mid-century inspired kitchen by Wood Works Brighton featuring a large Durat kitchen island in the colour 0100-01 and worktop, rich timber cabinetry, suspended ribbed-glass storage, and minimalist black bar stools.
"An empty space is full of possibilities. Our role is to discover which of those possibilities matter most and bring them to life."

Every Wood Works Brighton kitchen begins with a person, not a plan.

Created for clients who first discovered the studio through its award-winning Embu kitchen, KITUI builds on the same mid-century principles while responding entirely to a new way of living. Designed around the client's cooking habits, appliances and daily routines, the result is a kitchen where craftsmanship, functionality and materiality work in quiet harmony.

At its centre sits a Durat worktop, chosen for its seamless finish, distinctive colour palette and long-term durability. Paired with warm timber cabinetry, it introduces a contemporary layer to a space rooted in timeless design.

Every project starts with the client

What was the starting point for KITUI?

The client came to us after seeing Embu. They loved our approach but wanted something completely tailored to the way they cook and live.

While Embu became a reference point, KITUI quickly evolved into its own project. Their collection of appliances and cooking equipment became one of the key drivers of the layout and detailing.

The kitchen has a strong mid-century character. What inspired the aesthetic?

Mid-century design has always appealed to us because function sits at its heart. Every material and every detail has a purpose.

The palette developed naturally from that philosophy, balancing warmth, practicality and longevity. Durat introduced colour and texture while complementing the timber throughout the space.

"For us, every project starts by understanding the person behind the space, discovering what matters most and creating something that feels truly personal."

    Built to last

What made Durat the right choice for the worktops?

The client loved the choice of colours available. The island is also substantial, so the ability to achieve virtually invisible joins was a major advantage.

Longevity is central to your work. How does KITUI reflect that?

We design kitchens to last a lifetime, not a trend cycle. Exceptional materials, quality hardware and careful craftsmanship ensure the space can evolve with its owners and continue to perform beautifully for decades.

What makes a Wood Works Brighton kitchen distinctive?

    Our clients

The design process is about uncovering what's truly important to them, sometimes before they've identified it themselves. Every empty space is full of possibilities. Our role is simply to find the right ones.

    Looking ahead

How do you continue to innovate?

Inspiration comes from everywhere - architecture, furniture, art, film - but often the biggest breakthroughs come from solving a client's unique challenges. Those solutions frequently become part of our design language for future projects.

How do you want people to feel in KITUI?

    Calm.

If we've done our job well, the kitchen simply works. It allows people to focus on cooking, gathering and enjoying the space without thinking about the design itself.

KITUI reflects Wood Works Brighton's belief that great kitchens begin with understanding the people who use them. Balancing bespoke craftsmanship with durable materials and timeless design principles, the project demonstrates how thoughtful design creates spaces that feel effortless today and endure for generations.
