    Caring for Durat surfaces

    Regular care & maintenance

    Date: 16.02.2026

Durat is a durable solid surface material made with recycled post-industrial plastic collected from manufacturing and waste management facilities. Hardwearing, food-safe and easy to maintain, Durat is suitable for demanding applications including worktops, splashbacks, tea points, sinks, furniture and joinery. Once fabricated, the material has a smooth, semi-matte finish and a silky feel, while the recycled speckles help disguise the signs of everyday use.

Durat is typically finished with furniture polish or Solid Surface Shine to help protect and maintain the surface.

    Everyday cleaning

Durat is non-porous and easy to care for. For routine cleaning, wipe the surface with warm soapy water and a soft cloth or sponge.

Avoid harsh chemicals or strong alkalines like bleach, or acetone and solvent-based cleaners which can dull or distort the finish.

    Staining

Like all surface materials, Durat will develop signs of use and can scratch or mark in high-traffic areas, particularly around sinks and workstations. The terrazzo-like pattern helps minimise the appearance of minor wear and keeps surfaces looking good for longer. More stubborn stains or marks and light scratches can be removed using a cream cleaner or magic eraser.

    Polishing & Maintenance

To refresh the finish periodically, apply Solid Surface Shine using a bamboo or microfibre cloth and buff evenly across the surface. This helps maintain the silky finish and improve resistance to everyday wear.

Avoid polishing more than once per week as excessive application can create a greasy build-up.

    Repairs & refinishing

Durat is designed for longevity and rarely requires full refinishing. Deep scratches and damage can often be spot repaired or professionally restored by a fabricator.

At the end of its useful life, Durat can be repurposed into new applications or returned to the manufacturer to be recycled into new sheets, supporting a more circular approach to material use. Surfaces can be rejuvenated by an experienced fabricator or through Material Rescue's refurbishment service if they become heavily worn or damaged.
