What happens to samples when a project moves on?
Too often, they’re left unused or thrown away, despite still having value.
We see samples as part of a wider material lifecycle, not a single-use tool. That’s why we’re introducing sample returns: a simple way to keep materials in circulation for longer.
Samples are essential to the design process, helping assess colour, texture, durability and finish for specifications. Returning them helps extend the life of quality materials, reducing waste while keeping useful resources in use.
Part of a bigger system
Sample returns form part of our Material Rescue initiative.
More than a take-back scheme, it’s an approach rooted in recognising the value already embedded in materials and extending their lifecycle. That might mean recirculating samples across multiple projects, repairing and refinishing surfaces instead of replacing them, or reclaiming offcuts, displays, and furniture for new applications.
How sample returns work
Our process is simple:
- Research: Explore, compare and specify.
- Retain: When your project moves on, don’t throw samples away — many still have value.
- Return: We handle the logistics, making returns straightforward and hassle-free.
- Reuse: Returned samples are sorted, repaired where needed, and put back into use.
Returning samples may seem like a small action, but it supports a bigger shift - reducing unnecessary waste, extending material lifecycles, and enabling a more circular approach to design.
And it goes beyond samples. Through Material Rescue, returned materials can be reused, refurbished, or recycled, keeping valuable resources in circulation for longer.
