Guide to your next worktop

Date: 08.12.2025

Residential kitchen island completed with a terrazzo recycled plastic worktop Durat P001 Greyhound, fabricated with curved edge detail

Creating a bespoke surface for your home, whether that be a worktop or custom splashback or vanity, needs accuracy at every stage for a smooth experience, from drawing to install. This guide walks you through the production process, as well as guidance for measuring, selecting samples and understanding manufacturing tolerances of pre-fabricated pieces.

01 Design consultation

During this stage, we discuss:

  • What you are considering to do - sinks, island worktops, shelves, vanities, edge details, splash backs - there are lots of possibilities
  • Material choice and colour option - we can help narrow down your options
  • Any cutouts or technical details you need
  • What stage your project is in / if you have an appointed kitchen fitter

From here, we will be able to determine which direction to take.

02 Measuring Up

Accurate measurements help everything fit seamlessly, the fabrication depends entirely on the details you provide, we recommend using your appointed kitchen fitter.

Even in new builds walls and floors rarely follow perfectly straight lines. Walls move, floors dip and small adjustments are often needed during installations. We recommend your fitter:

  • Allows for uneven walls and levels
  • Plans for scribing in on-site
  • Prepares for sinks, hobs, taps and other cut-outs
  • Measures with enough tolerance to trim if needed, adding around +1 mm where cabinets meet to account for tiny gaps (you can remove material, but you can't add it back)

Good measurements reduce the risk of delays and remakes later on.

03 From Drawings to Delivery

Initial information & Drawings

We'll give you an estimate from preliminary drawings based on the measurements you or your installer provide.

Detailed Drawings

Once sizes and cutouts are confirmed, we prepare a technical shop drawing for approval. These set out dimension, tolerances and key deign features ie; sink grooves, edge thicknesses and profile. The price of the detailed drawing will be offset against the final order.

Manufacturing

Once everything is approved, you'll pay a deposit and your surface goes into production. We will keep you updated along the way. Every piece is fabricated and finished to drawing, with right tolerances to ensure accuracy. These vary depending on the positioning and sizes of the cut outs.

  • Top dimensions +/- 1 mm.
  • Positioning of Durat sinks +/-2mm
  • Durat sink size measured on the the top +/-5mm
  • Cut out positioning +/- 1mm

Delivery & Installation

Your finished worktop will arrive at our warehouse, arrange with your kitchen fitter the best time for delivery to your home and we will get it booked in. You may also want to purchase some adhesive for any seaming and jointing.
