Expanding Table

Heatherwick Studio designed the Friction Table using a modified lattice structure so precisely executed the table can change its size and proportions to adapt to different spaces and uses. Closed, the round table has a diameter of 1.8 metres, once fully expanded, the table reaches over 4 metres long in a sleek elliptical form. Richlite Black Diamond was machined into a number of pieces which are perfectly set to open in a smooth motion. The Friction Table is the third in a series of experimental designs from Heatherwick Studio and was launched at Frieze fair.
