Designing for sound
What if the way a space feels, could change the way you hear? At the Spotify Listening Lounge in London, every surface is shaped with that in mind. This is not just a room for playing music but a space designed for focused listening, where materials subtly influence the experience. Designed by Cake Architecture, the environment brings together sound, atmosphere and material with intention. At the centre of it Karlite, in the colour chalk as the stage feature wall.
Karlite goes beyond function as a surface. Created from carefully sourced end-of-life car headlights, it reworks durable polycarbonate into something refined, tactile and quietly expressive. It's translucent quality becomes part of the spatial experience, allowing light to filter through and introduces a soft ambient glow. Creating a space that feels calm, balanced and immersive. It's strength and longevity ensure the material performs over time, without losing its presence. Because the most effective materials are not just seen, they shape how a space functions, how it feels, and how it is experienced.
