Skype’s primary goal was to create a world-class office that would make them stand out against their Bay Area competitors. Studio Blitz was able to create a space that reflects Skype’s spirit of innovation in a highly functional yet creative workplace designed to encourage interaction and spontaneity. Due to its extensive use of AV, acoustics was also an important requirement that had to be met. The project achieved LEED Silver certification.
The layout works around concentric spaces for collaboration, concentration and contemplation. A central corridor runs through the building, branching off it are pods designed to highly absorb sound where the most noise intensive work will be held. Between meeting rooms, they have placed communal work spaces and informal gathering areas that are scattered with moveable furniture with Vang and Go lounge chairs from Loll Designs, encouraging workers to adjust and set up as they need. This functional but fun furniture encourages collaboration while the simple palette and openness provide a backdrop for sharing and creativity.
